the granting of pensions to the unmarried companions of National Guards killed on active service, as well as to the children if any

10 Who said, “it was starting work as a half-timer (at the age of twelve) with Mother that really opened my eyes to the kind of world we live in. We Had Our First Meeting!
After the best attempts of the system, we still managed to have a successful meeting in the SLLU offices on Saturday 2nd December at 1pm SLT.
There were discussions about many things, but conclusions were made.
These were that the “perfect” capitalist system of SL can be, with the will of enough people on the game, completely socialised, that is ran by the people with skills rather than those with money as is the case now; and we, the SLLU can be part of this “revolution” or change.
We discussed a starting point for our revolutions, and it was agreed that we have started well with our premises in Scotland. Our next “baby step” to change is to utilise the skills of people already in our group. Three people with skills such as clothes design, building and scripting are going to make things for a welcome pack which will be in the office for people to access. Anyone with skills such as these who was not able to come to the meeting is asked to perhaps create something for the pack. Suggestions were made of teeshirts and clothes with the logos of world wide socialist and left organisations on them. Other ideas are welcome.
Finances as per Sunday 3rd December 2006 are L$1826 – with L$100 coming off for rent in another two days.
The next meeting will be at 1.00pm slt (9.00pm gmt) Sunday 10th December. Please bring ideas and comradeship!
I will be publishing details of the meeting in full on the blog during the week.
In solidarity

This Saturday's meeting and other notices...
This is an amalgam of recent notices on the Second Life Left Unity group:
We will be meeting in the Scotland sim SLLU office on Saturday night (2nd December) at 9.30 to discuss the attached note. Invite others who may be interested.
It’ll be great to meet all of you together! If you can’t make it and would like your ideas discussed or put to the group, please im me and I will pass them on to everyone who comes.

A few things for conversation. First of all a video to watch! This video is a number of pieces of footage taken during the G8 visit to Scotland in 2005. It was edited together by the SSP. Watch the video and have a think about what could the left have done differently during the visit of the Neo-liberalist leaders and what could we expect to have achieved? And what advice can we give our German brithers and sisters on their impending visit of the G8 next year?

Secondly these are various quotes from across a couple of centuries. Which ones do you like, and why and which ones are you less happy with and why? Select perhaps one of each for conversation.
Quotes:
If you are a big tree& we are a small axe. Bob Marley
You must be the change you want to see in the world. Mahatma Gandhi
"The worker who votes for the upholders of the system of society that allows him to be robbed of the larger part of the wealth produced by him and his fellows, is clearly a simpleton." John Maclean, Socialist, Red Clydesider, Scotsman, Teacher. (Maclean died in 1923)
Until they become conscious they will never rebel and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious.Orwell 1984
"We socialists are freer because we are more complete; we are more complete because we are freer. The skeleton of our complete freedom is already formed. The flesh and the clothing are lacking" Che Guevara
There are only two forces in the world, the sword and the spirit.
In the long run the sword will always be conquered by the spirit.
Napoleon Bonaparte
"The motor force of progress is truth, not lies." Trotsky
"The less we romanticise harsh reality and the more truthfully we present contemporary women's psychology, her struggles, her migraines and her aspirations, the richer the material for the spiritual image of women we shall have to study"
Alexandra Kollantai 1918, USSR
"If You Don't Stand for Something, You'll Fall for Anything" Barb Alexander
I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent. Mahatma Gandhi
Our next mission is to create a grafitti wall for the office. This is to be our "mission statement" - all suggestions should be sent to SLUL Revolution or me. It is then up to the group to make known which ones stay or go.
Remember - the meeting is this Saturday at 9.30 gmt
We have created a "funds" Avatar.
Could members give what they can afford - perhaps on a weekly basis - to the Avatar - SLUL Revolution (look him up in the membership of the group) or pay the Funds Kitty on the couch in the office on the Scotland Sim.
We pay 100 linden dollars a week for the premises on the Scotland sim - and it would be great to have a fund started to perhaps in the future buy our own land.
We will give financial statements on a regular basis - and will ask the group for approval for any payments. The exception will be the weekly payment for the office.
We will let everyone know how much we have on Saturday - and will give weekly updates from then on.
In this group, we are all equal - but I have to single HiggleDpiggle Snoats for all of her hard work so far! She has created the office singlehandedly.
